First load of balled and burlapped (b&b) trees arrived yesterday, and another one today.
What does balled and burlapped mean?
We often use the term when talking about plants and the response is usually a blank look. Plants that are balled and burlapped have been field grown. So, they have actually been grown in soil, in a field and cultivated. When they have grown to the desired size, the plants are dug, when dormant, and that root ball is placed in burlap, often with a metal cage surrounding the root ball to help stabilize it.
On this load: flowering crabapples, cherry, fruiting apples, maples, elms, and hawthorn.
