Newly potted perennials are growing in the greenhouse.
We start growing perennials in February. In the greenhouse they are supplied with gentle warmth to bring them out of dormancy and begin their growth for the season earlier than they would outside. When their roots have reached the bottom of the pot and filled out the sides, they will be put outside on the benches to sell.
Snow has been melting and some of us are looking a bare ground around our homes. And we want to get planting! But it’s a little too soon. We will start uncovering our over-wintered plants in the next couple of weeks. Those plants, because they spent their winter in Gorham, Maine, are in sync with the season. As soon as they are uncovered, they are ready to plant (if you can dig a hole). Shipments of new plants will begin soon, and we will post their arrival on our website. We know you are anxious, and we are too. Please keep in mind that O’Donal’s is 10 acres and it takes many shipments to fill this place up, in fact, it takes us weeks and weeks of steady unloading.
So, what to do with all this spring fever? The answer is houseplants and seeds. Add a few houseplants to perk up your living spaces. Don’t forget to add hanging plants. It’s a great way to add plants without taking up floor space or to keep plants away from curious pets. Get some seeds going on that sunny windowsill. We have all the supplies you need to get started.
Come in a visit us, our Garden Center is changing every day with new items and houseplants.
